11 days old...| Durham Region Baby Photographer

I had a great time during my session with baby "B" last week when he came to my studio with his mom and sister. We had to exercise a little patience waiting for him to get settled in and fall asleep, but it was well worth the wait. Once he was out, he was out! The shots of baby and sister were a bit of a treat for me: usually I have to spend a little bit of time coaxing and bribing big brother or sister to participate, but an afternoon off school was enough of an incentive for baby's 17 year old sister to cooperate!

Instead of a photo I would like to share with everyone a poem that my daughter wrote. She has an incredible talent for writing for a 10 year old (ok, I might be just a wee bit biased...).

Hope

Hope is beautiful and free of cost. Hope is the last thing ever lost.

Hope is as light as a feather. Hope is what brings us all together.

Hope is fire burning in the snow. Hope is a map when you don't know where to go.

Hope is what helps fight for you when things get tough. Hope is when you keep going when you have had enough.

Hope is what tries to console you when your eyes glisten with tears. Hope is what gives you something to keep going, whatever your fears.

Hope is beautiful and free of cost. Hope is the last thing ever lost.

Almost 3 weeks... {Durham Region Newborn Photographer}

Do newborns have to be photographed under the age of 2 weeks? Well, it's certainly preferable, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to do it past the the 2 week mark. It just means we have to work a little harder :) When babies are under 10 days old they are nice and sleepy and much more tolerant of being folded and moved around from prop to prop. As they get older they become much more aware that something is going on and don't settle quite as easily. (not to mention that baby acne starts to set in!). As always, I recommend that you call me while you are still pregnant to book your session, but if you have missed the two week window please don't think you have lost your opportunity...

This 18 day old beauty came by for a session the other day (thank you so much mom and dad for making the long drive out to see me!) and yes, it was more difficult to get her to sleep and of course baby acne had start to set in but we still managed to get some fantastic shots! Of course one of the advantages of photographing an older newborn is the chance to get some great open eyes shots. And no matter the age it's always possible to capture a tender moment between mom and baby!

Well I guess this one doesn't really qualify as a sneak peek considering the family has already seen their gallery! As much as I would like to post a sneak peek for every session it doesn't always happen. So even though this family has already seen their images, I really wanted to share a couple of my favourite photos from their session as well as a little storyboard I had fun creating.

Those of you that follow my blog might remember this beautiful mommy-to-be back before Christmas. I had really hoped to have their maternity pictures edited before their little girl arrived but considering that she was born 2 days after our belly session that didn't happen!! So they were back just over a week later for their newborn session. I do believe that this photo of Mom and baby is one of my all time favourites! I just love the peaceful expression on both of their faces. (kind of funny considering the session was slightly chaotic between the baby peeing and pooping and spitting up, not to mention two older sisters trying their best to be patient throughout a session that they had no interest in being a part of!)

It's New Year's Day...

...and I am told by my daughter that I shouldn't be "working" So I thought I would use my free time to work on some fun personal photos instead. Getting my children to pose for photos is a challenge at the best of times, but a couple of weeks ago my daughter graciously donated a few minutes of her time LOL! When these moments pop up I need to work fast, because they are usually gone in the blink of an eye! In my haste, I had forgotten to double check the settings on my camera and the first few pictures I snapped were way over-exposed, but sometimes accidents work out well because for some reason I really like the overexposed image, particularly after I converted in to black and white. Continuing to not "work" today I had a little fun with the image of her in the blue scarf. I realize that I am somewhat biased, but isn't she beautiful!!??
