I am so excited about the recent addition to my newborn props! It was like Christmas morning when I opened up my gorgeous trenchbowl. As if that wasn't enough, I only had to wait a couple of hours before getting the opportunity to try it out, and then again the next day with this sleeping beauty. Again don't let the sleepy baby fool you, this was just a brief moment in time! There must have been something in the air last week because none of the babies were in the mood for sleep ;)

This session was recent enough that it is fresh in my mind...and my memory is telling me that this little monkey didn't sleep very much at all during his session! Even so, we did manage to sneak in a couple of peaceful moments during one of his brief naps. Sleep or not, newborns rock! It doesn't get much better than this...

I had such a blast with this family when they came to the studio for a family/belly session. This young man you see here cracked me up, he was so funny, and his sister was such a beautiful girl (the fact that she liked my cookies didn't hurt either :) ). It was a pleasure to meet you! I wanted to have some sneak peeks up sooner but I just couldn't decide which ones I wanted to show, so I gave up the battle and chose several. You might want to sit back and relax with a cup of coffee 'cause I added a few more than I normally do. (and still have lots left over!)

Doesn't always have to be colour...| durham region maternity photographer

Colour is great, I love it and a good portion of my images are edited in colour. But sometimes it's fun to break away from the traditionnal and have a little fun with your images! Black and white is a good place to start. One of my recent clients expressed a interest in black and white images, so when I post their sneak peeks later today, they will all be black and white images (and they turned out so well!!)

It doesn't have to be black and white though. How about a vintage-seventies look to your photo? Sepia? Add slight yellow tone for some warmth, blue to cool it down. The possibilities are really endless. Don't just stop with the colour treatment either, adding texture can really make an image interesting. Here is an example of a standard colour image and a few variations of the same image...

With the weather being so cold and most of us hibernating during the winter, I was expecting the month of February to be a little quiet around here, but it has been quite the opposite! I had the pleasure of meeting so many great families this month as well as re-connecting with past clients. With February being a shorter month, the end is rapidly approaching. Where did the dog go? | Durham Region Children's Photographer

Last summer I met with this little guy down by the lake for a mini session. His mom just contacted me recently inquiring about this image and I just had to share it for a couple of reasons. One being that it's such a darn cute picture, the other is the puppy you see here is my Sadie (scan through the blog and you'll see more pics of her!) When I looked the image up I was floored to see how small she was! If memory serves, I believe we only had her for about a week at the time of this session. Normally my dog doesn't accompany me on my sessions ;), but given the location of this one my family took the opprotunity to come along and walk the dog while I took pictures of C. This image was snapped as our session was wrapping up.

Cake Smash | Whitby Children's Photographer

This is the story of a little girl and her cake... Now I have always said that's important to capture all sides of your child's personality so we are going to start off with K's reaction when we sat her down at the beginning of the session :)

Next we presented her with her very own cake. It always amazes me how gentle and delicate babies are at this point...

...and the next minute look so peaceful. I really enjoyed my session with M and his family. Thank you so much for your patience while we waited for this little monkey to fall asleep. It makes it all worth it in the end doesn't it?

I mean really...how darn cute is this little gal? I had the absolute pleasure of photographing her as a newborn and she came back for some more pictures at 4 months old. I have to be honest though and say she didn't look like this the whole session...little J was a bit off that day and was letting us all know that she was not in the mood to get her picture taken! That's ok though we still managed to sneak in a few great shots.

Things have been wonderfully busy around here lately, so of course the blog tends to fall a little behind...

This is a sneak peek for 'A' and 'J' from their second mini 'Growing Belly' sessions. I am so looking forward to the final belly session in a couple of weeks. 'Growing Belly' sessions are offered to clients that book a full maternity session early enough in their pregnancy to be able to come in a few times before their actual session (at no extra charge!) to grab some quick snaps of their growing belly. It's quick and simple, just a few minutes of your time once a month or so to record the stages of your belly's growth.

Now the first preview I posted last month was a black and white image (can be seen here), and the idea is that all the growing belly images follow the same theme, but for some reason I really liked this image and this is how I envisioned it. Not to worry 'A' and 'J', I will be adding b/w and standard colour versions to your final proofs!
